Among the nations of the world, America has long been the bastion of religious freedom. That freedom is already eroding, but it must not be allowed to further diminish. It must be restored.

Eric Metaxas has become something of a household name, at least in those households who monitor events like the National Prayer Breakfast and/or organizations like the Colson Center. Metaxas is also a gifted author whose books include Amazing Grace: William Wilberforce and the Heroic Campaign To End Slavery and BONHOEFFER: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy.

Metaxas was one of the speakers at the recent Conservative Political Action Conference, CPAC 2013. His 14-minute speech is a powerful and prophetic reminder of the historic value of religious freedom and the current threats against religious freedom in the US.

• “If marriage is legally redefined it will utterly cripple religious freedom in America, and it’s already beginning to do that. And no one is even talking about this. It’s time we had this discussion.”
• “When someone tells you ‘The science is settled and the debate is over” that’s a sure sign that the debate is not over but that they are deathly afraid that the debate might begin.’
• “God determines who is on the right side of history, not the government and certainly not the mainstream media.”
• Wilberforce is the story of “what happens when a man drags religion into the public square … as a result the government was forced to abolish the slave trade. Don’t you think the African slaves were glad Wilberforce allowed his religion to affect his politics?”
