This week, Darrow Miller is in Puerto Rico at the YWAM base teaching a new workshop, Occupy Till I Come. About 50 people are participating. Most of these are at the base completing a DTS or other YWAM program.
Darrow has taught annually at the Puerto Rico YWAM base for five years. Yarley Nino, the base leader, has a strong commitment to training youth in DNA principles. In her introduction before Darrow began, she highlighted the importance of these concepts and thanked Darrow. “Not only his ministry but his life has impacted us. We see God’s character in him.”
For their part, Yarley and her team at JUCUM (Spanish for YWAM) are giving global leadership in comprehensive ministry models. JUCUM participated in the recent 4-14 Window Global Summit II in New York which convened to envision a global movement to “raise up Christ followers from the 4-14 window to transform the world.” (The window refers to children age 4 to 14.)
The JUCUM team had been invited to join the curriculum development track. At the conference they showed a video they had produced from two children’s camps (in Hong Kong and Puerto Rico). These camps comprised highly creative ways of teaching children the concepts of faithful living in the various spheres of life: family, economics, government, church, education, arts and science.
At the conference, and afterward, they were overwhelmed with requests for copies of the video and the accompanying worldview curriculum for children.Since then they have received invitations to bring their training and curriculum to churches in Colombia and Panama. Given the strong value they place on multiplication they are inclined to respond positively to such invitations–and in fact are planning to take a team of 24 to both countries–but are also stretched almost beyond their capacity. Nevertheless, Yarley wants to be equal to the challenge, and believes in a God who makes us able.
Our desire is to train those that disciple the little ones with kingdom principles. Darrow’s teachings on the Kingdom of God and Discipling Nations have given us the inspiration and the tools to be more effective in our discipleship.
